Front suspension

2023 Ford F-150 Tremor · 5.0L V8

This decision is still open. 3 options are being compared, nothing has been ordered, and no manufacturer has been committed to. Where one option is marked as currently leaning, that's a preference at this stage — not a decision.

What this turns on

This decision belongs to phase one, and it is close to the only one that does. Phase one keeps the truck on Tremor underpinnings and asks for towing stability and daily-driver ride at near stock height. Phase two brings a full Raptor front suspension, taken for track width as much as travel: Raptor fenders over a Tremor front end leave a gap a wider tire does not close. What that means is narrow. The bumpers, the grille and the lighting all carry straight through to phase two - nothing about them is provisional. The suspension is the exception, and the temporary steel fenders are the other. Everything else being bought now is being bought once. So this is the second deliberate break from the rule about not replacing the same part twice, for the same reason as the first: the truck has to be roadworthy through a winter, and the parts that would make the later answer unnecessary do not arrive until spring. Buying twice is the price of not parking it. The rear is not part of that either. It stays on Tremor suspension because that is what tows. Matching the track the front gains is a phase-two problem, solved with spacers rather than a different rear end, and nothing has been bought toward it yet.

Phase one choice — no decision yet on when it is bought

Part number: 47-323841

Why this option

Chosen for towing stability and daily-driver ride quality rather than maximum travel. Planned setting is near stock Tremor height — roughly 0 to 0.5 inch of additional front height — deliberately avoiding a lift that would change the geometry the truck was engineered around, and keeping the step-in height low enough for kids and grandparents, which is the reason this truck replaced an F-250 in the first place.

Trade-offs

Running near stock height gives up the aggressive stance a bigger lift would deliver - that is the intended trade for phase one, where towing manners matter more than proportions. The larger trade is knowing this is temporary: a Raptor front end in phase two supersedes it, so this is a part bought to get through one winter and a towing season rather than to finish the truck. Anyone copying this build for a Tremor that is staying a Tremor is in a different position, and should weigh it against the Fox and ICON options on their own merits rather than on this reasoning.

2.5 Factory Series coilover with DSC

Fox

Researching

Why this option

Larger body, external reservoir options, and compression damping adjustment — genuinely more capable over rough ground.

Where it currently stands

Built for desert travel this truck won't use. It adds cost and periodic rebuild service in exchange for capability outside the tow-and-daily use case, and typically pushes ride height further than the near-stock target.

2.5 Vehicle Dynamics coilover

ICON

Why this option

Comparable to the Fox in construction and adjustability, with a strong reputation for fit and finish.

Where it currently stands

Same reasoning as the Fox — rebuildable race hardware for a truck whose priority is a comfortable loaded ride at close to factory height.
