Slip yoke and U-joint kit, to rebuild the original shaft
Ford (OEM)
Delivered 13 Oct 2026 — neither part matches the original; question is with Ford
Part number: ML3Z-4841-B slip yoke + ML3Z-4635-AA U-joint kit
Why this option
Once the complete shaft for this truck turned out to list at about $800 rather than $308, rebuilding the original came back ahead on cost: a new slip yoke and a U-joint kit, pressed in. Both are the parts Ford's VIN lookup returns for this truck, and both boxes carry those numbers, so this is not a picking error.
Where it currently stands
Neither matches what came off the truck. The new yoke is a different forging (50829, against the original's 30303), and on a bench test fit the ears of the shaft's weld yoke contact it before the joint reaches full angle. The new U-joint cross is smaller than the original. On 14 Oct 2026 the dealer forwarded the details to Ford, asking which yoke and U-joint are correct for this shaft, or credit toward the complete shaft if neither is serviced separately. No answer yet.
Trade-offs
Rebuilding means pressing U-joints, which the workshop manual allows only as complete kits. Transfer-case fluid gets checked once it is back together, because the yoke spent time out of the case.
